Ferrands Oak

Today was wet and I didn't fancy a walk so on my return from the nearby town I drove through the St Ives Estate to blip the commemorative plaque to the Ferrands Oak. ( The Estate originally belonged to the Ferrands family - see here and here Large)

The plaque reads:

THE FERRANDS OAK

250 YEARS OLD 12 1/2 TONS

FELLED 15-06-1985

NOW PART OF THE NEW SOUTH
TRANSEPT OF YORK MINSTER

After the fire in 1984 there was an appeal for donations of suitable oak trees and as this was very large and encroaching on the narrow road it was offered.

Good to think of it in use in such a magnificent building.
