Monifieth & Tennis

Escaped the pleasures of sorting out the photos and catching up on blipping for a bit today. There's been a Surf Scoter at Monifieth for the last couple of days so thought we could get over there and back before Andy's match resumed. So we did and duly saw the Surf Scoter, but it was quite distant, in fact so distant that when I browsed through the 150 photos I'd taken of where I thought it was I couldn't find any that were actually recognisable.

So watched Andy win, checked the high tide at Monifieth, perhaps it'll bring the bird closer in. High tide was in just over an hour so headed back, although Mrs L decided she didn't need to see it a second time. Well after scanning the distant Eider flocks it looked like Mrs L had made a wise decision. Then I saw some nearer (nearer being a relative term) and there it was. At least this time when I pointed the camera at it I knew which bird it was as opposed to earlier pointing the camera in the general direction of where the telescope was pointing.

Check out RCB's Blip and judge for yourself how close the Surf Scoter was - it's the one with the yellow bill and white patch on its head! Your photo is of the victorious Andy Murray - dare we hope?
