Bee-eater

Audrey: "Am I right in supposing that a Bee-Eater eats bees?"
Marjory: "Well bound to, I mean that's probably why it's called a Bee-Eater."
Audrey: "It doesn't seem to have occurred to you that I am a beekeeper, and that your Bee-Eater is going to eat the bees which I as a beekeeper keep!"
Marjory: "Well I suppose it is just possible."
Audrey: "It's more than just possible; it's highly probable! You don't call a bird a Bee-Eater if it lives on asparagus!"

The old twitching genes have been twitching again. There's been a Bee-eater in Seaburn, Sunderland since 2nd November and it's only 165 miles to Sunderland - how could we resist?

So glad we didn't because today it put on a fine show for those watching including catching this White-tailed Bumblebee. We returned via Barns Ness where a walk along the beach produced Turnstone, Oystercatcher, Redshank and Sanderling and then as we were driving out Mrs L had to stop quickly as we were treated to fine views of a Short-eared Owl hunting. An excellent day, well worth the mileage.
