A Saltaire Street
Visited airedaleknitter who was having a coffee morning. It was great fun and turned out to be something of a Mini-Blipmeet.
Corinthian was there, along with jeanneb53, Majikcat, and WilsdenWalker
After coffee and cakes, took Polly for a walk in St. Ives woods and then ended up in Saltaire.
Saltaire is named after Sir Titus Salt. It was a purpose built village to house workers for his new textile mill, by the side of the River Aire .
There is something of a link here to yesterday's blip - Sir Titus was a proponent of the temperance movement of the mid 19th century and, because of this there were no pubs or saloons built in Saltaire - however nowadays things have changed :-)
In December 2001, Saltaire was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This is Albert Terrace - named after Queen Victoria's consort.
