SuperStar

Super. Star. Superstar. My sister. A superstar in so many ways, let me just describe another way that shows how above and beyond she goes for other people.

When my sister began planning our nephew's 5th birthday party, she asked her son who he would like to invite, and this year, along with the usual group of kids who attend, he also wanted all of his friends from preschool to come. So my sister talked to his school and found that their policy is to invite all of the kids. So that is what they were going to do. When she went to place the party invitation in the the sign-up book at the school, she noticed that there was another party invite there. A Spiderman invitation. Just like hers. With the party being on the same day, only an hour earlier.

My sister felt terrible. She certainly didn't want to hurt the other Mother's feelings by hosting a preschool party on the same day for the same group of kids. So she decided to call her and apologize for the double booking. She already had the gym deposit down but wanted to talk to the other Mother to see what her feelings were. It turns out that this other family is new to the area. The little boy had only recently begun attending the school. So when my sister got ahold of the Mother, the Mom's response was very polite but it made my sister feel awful. The woman said, "Oh that is okay, really it is. The kids will choose to come to your son's party. My son is new". Oh, my sister just felt terrible. She did not want to take the spotlight away from this other family. As she and the woman were talking the woman said quietly, "I guess we could always combine the parties?". "ABSOLUTELY! That is absolutely what we should do", my sister said. And the woman just lit up. She was so touched and pleased that my sister would be willing to share parties. She said, "Oh my son will be so happy. We don't know anyone here in town and I was just going to do a family dinner but he insisted on having a party with lots of friends". And a party with lots of friends is exactly what he got. And our nephew shared his party day so very graciously. It turns out that this woman is a single Mom who works construction. The job requires the two of them to move frequently. She was overjoyed in knowing that her son would be surrounded with friends as he celebrated his 5th birthday.

And our nephew thought that having a 'joint party' was the coolest thing ever. My sister ordered a huge cake that had 5 candles on one side and 5 candles on the other side. The cake read Happy Birthday to both of the boys. They blew out their candles together. They each had a pinata full of candy. My sister even made sure that the pile of presents were even in number. Everything was wonderful. This boy's Grandma had tears in her eyes as she was thanking my sister for including their family. But in my sister's eyes, this was just how the party was meant to be. It was unique and it was special. And a new family town had an opportunity to meet a gym full of wonderful people. My sister is a Super Star. As soon as she told me this story, the day before, I immediately had tears in my eyes. And I said to her, "You know this story is going to have to be blipped right?!!!" So here she is, my sister. The 'Mighty Three' symbolizing her huge heart and compassionate soul. Above and beyond, this Superstar was called to duty!
