Cuttlefish

This is not the first time I've blipped a cuttlefish - that happened in 2008 in Lanzarote. This is the first time I've blipped one from Scottish waters however - this one was on a wall dive very near Oban.

I watched my buddy furiously photographing something and kicking up some silt off the bottom as she did so. Then this cuttlefish emerged from the silt cloud!

They are really cute, and seem so intelligent - unlike most other life underwater which may be beautiful but gives little impression of being smart!

A good day diving in the end - this scenic dive yielded this cuttlefish and a dogfish (small shark). This afternoon we dived the wreck of the Breda, where visivility wasn't great but we still had a lovely dive. The day got off to a slow start though, with a bit of rearranging needed after 2 of the 4 boats in our planned flotilla dropped out - one due to illness on the part of the owner, and one due to a mechanical failure (caused - it would seem - but the boat yard that just worked on it!).

Time for some Zzzzzs now - another full day of diving tomorrow.
