Scallop

I'm home now after my long weekend in Oban, but we did have time for one last dive this morning. Fortunately I had stopped being a muppet (well, at least no more than usual) today.

This is a scallop - and it's unusually wide open showing it's mantle very clearly. I think it's probably trying to oxygenate itself after the exertion of swimming. I was surprised when I first found out Scallops could swim, but they just flap open and closed to create a jet of seawater to propel themselves. It's very funny to watch!

There are lots more photos from the trip on my website if you're interested.

I also notice as I type this that my journal (at 1010 consecutive entries) is now about to get it's 250,000th view - that's quarter of a million. Cool!
