Brave little Misty

Our poor wee cat is sick.

Last night while I was out, MrsCyclops had to take her to the emergency vet as she didn't seem to be able to breathe. They were extremely worried about her and for a while they didn't think she was going to make it, but eventually found some cause for hope and with the help of an oxygen tent and a transfusion from one of the nurses cats (cat blood doesn't keep well apparently) she made it through the night, and seems much more comfortable and alert this morning.

We've had to collect her and taken her to our own vet this morning. She's stable, but they need to figure out what caused her red blood count to drop so catastrophically. There are lots of possibilities so we're just waiting anxiously to hear from them.

Huge thanks to lovely emergency vets from Vets Now, the nurse who volunteered her cat as a donor, and of course to the cat!

This is my brave wee Misty when we left her at our vets this morning. I think she's well enough to be rather proud of her big pink bandage... Long may that last.

*** UPDATE 14:00 ***

Our vet found a lump in her belly, which the ultrasound showed as a tumour. After a nervewracking hour of surgery (for us - she was out cold!) the vet has managed to remove a burst tumour, along with her spleen and a lot of blood she lost internally. She's waking up from the anaesthetic OK, but she's still very weak and they are trying to arrange another transfusion (from another nurses cat!) to ease her recovery.

We're not out of the woods yet, lots of fingers still crossed here...

*** UPDATE 21:30 ***

We picked Misty up from our vet this evening and transferred her back to the emergency vet for overnight observation. While we were there we saw the tumour - it was bigger than a golf ball - she's only wee so proportionally it was HUGE! The post-op transfusion seems to have helped her a little, but she's still anaemic and very weak. It's been a huge trauma, but we're hoping that after a good night's rest (none of us got that last night) we'll all feel a bit better in the morning. Especially Misty.
