Ad-Bike

I really should have knuckled down to work on the quarterly magazine I do the design work for, since enough material began to come in on Friday and yesterday to justify getting stuck in. My excuse is that, being such a long time since I've donned the work harness, it was more difficult than usual to get things started. Combine that with my new need to fit in a decent walk every day and it turned out to be mid afternoon before I got my act together. It wasn't a great day in terms of weather, so it took a bit of effort to go outside in the first place, but things weren't as bad in reality as they looked like from inside (damp streets and pavements, but not actually raining).

I walked to Fairview and got a bus from there to the city centre, then walked over to Merrion Square/Baggot Street. It was around there that I came across this strange-looking folding bike, outside what I think is a 'new world' place, down in one of the basements. It doesn't look all that comfortable, but at least it's a talking point and it advertises the establishment.

I'd got bad news about my iMac earlier on. I'd left it in about two weeks ago to be looked at, and still had no word by yesterday when I phoned for info. I was promised a call-back, but didn't hear my mobile notify me of an incoming voice message asking me to phone them back in turn. The news isn't good. The display had suddenly failed, going totally black and stubbornly staying that way no matter what trouble-shooting ideas I tried. Now I was told that the graphics card had died, that the card on my model iMac (late 2006, white) is attached to the motherboard and the motherboard will need to be replaced to fix the display problem. Their advice is that the cost involved (five to sic hundred euro) isn't worth it, and that I'd be better off getting a new one. So, while I mulled over the implications of this bit of news, I was forced to do my design work using my little MacBook. It actually worked out better than I expected, I got a good bit done during the afternoon, and then took advantage of some nighttime sleeplessness to get more done between 2.00 and 4.00 am. Ah! The old habits are back!
