Bottle opener

This item has been in the family for a long, long time. This bottle opener was produced to mark the 75th anniversary of Amstel beer export (I haven't managed to find out when that would have been, but I see that one of these was sold on eBay and was described in the listing as a 'vintage' item. This one moved with us from house to house, and I would reckon that it dates from the late '50s or early '60s.

If you look closely you should be able to see a raised bit between the two coats of arms. This is used to spin the opener, and the story was that whoever it points to when it stops spinning has to buy the next round — mind you, I can't understand why money would need to change hands when an opener is being used at home.

Anyway, it was fortunate that this fell off its hook in the kitchen this morning and drew attention to itself, since I didn't venture out at all today because of the gale. It's also nice that each time I see it or use it I think of my Dad, who I seem to remember brought it into the house.
