My Grandfather's soldiers
My maternal Grandfather George Edgar Slack known as Edgar/Pater/Grandpa was born in 1899 and died in 1978 when I was 13, he was an imposing slightly stern man with an infectious laugh, always dressed in a 3 piece suit with either a cigar or a pipe in hand, he took lots of photographs and I remember the glass bulbs blowing on his flash!
He was successful in business and a very bad loser!
He was a marine in the first world war, I believe he lied about his age in order to fight, and in the second world war his company ENNA manufactured cylindrical bomb carriers for fighter planes in WW2.
I remember him with great affection and had countless happy hours in his large house in Ruislip in London which had a huge garden and a veranda, one of my fondest memories is listening to him and my Grandmother playing classical duets on their Steinway Grand piano
These are his toys which i have given to Zebedee
