Heidi and Her House

This is our friend Heidi, who arrived today from Germany to spend a couple of days with us.

I have known her since 1969, when I was spending a year in Frankfurt doing dissertation research. She's a retired pediatrician, born in China to German parents. She's holding a picture of her weekend house in the Odenwald, in winter. It was formerly a one-room schoolhouse (she had to remove the desks), at the upper end of a small village--the road ends outside her door, and there are walking paths from there. A marvelous spot in all seasons!
