I don't believe in ghosts. But some places are so strongly linked in your mind with one particular, important person that, even when they are gone from life, their many selves seem still essentially to be in that special place; and every time you visit, you just know that they are 'there'. So in 1930 and 1946 and 1955 and 1970 and today, and every time I sit beside the ;pond and breathe, you are in this lovely place , Alex McKay.
