G.T. Tuby and Sons Road Locomotive

Spent most of the day (after a spell on the treadmill at the gym. Loving my new trainers.) at Stotfold Mill Spring Fair and Steam Weekend. Spoilt for choice on my blip today. I have a lovely one of an old but very shiney red tractor and also one of Daddy, Poppa and Carys loving the big wheel experience. Finally however I plumped for this as it had the most colour and shine to it.

The Tuby's still run many of the funfairs in the north of England and GT was once the Mayor of Doncaster hence the Ex Mayor model. It was built in 1925 for the amusement caterer GT Tuby & Sons of Doncaster. The engine was of a special design and was the only one built as a 10nhp Special Scenic Showmans Road Locomotive. It was purchased to haul and power the Scenic Railway that Tuby?s travelled. However, the ride was sold just prior to the engine arriving so it spent its working life driving the dodgems.

Its driver Frank Cheffins saved the engine from the scrap yard in the 1940s and sold it on. It passed through several owners including the Rt Hon. Sir William McAlpine where it took pride of place amongst his fine collection of steam and vintage exhibits. It now resides with the Saunders Collection in Bedfordshire and is exhibited all over the UK and in Europe.

You can get a Corgi version of this, that is the sort of thing floats your boat.

We had a lovely time, Carys and I went on the old sytle fairground horses ride, she went on the big wheel twice and had an ice cream, what more could a nearly four year old ask for?
