On the Roof of the Met

We visited the Metropolitan Museum this afternoon--sunny but not too hot.

On its roof each summer the museum displays large-scale sculptures by one artist--this season it's Anthony Caro (b. 1924), perhaps the most highly regarded British sculptor of his generation. The work in the foreground is After Summer (1968), and that in the right background is Blazon (1987-90). Both are of painted steel.

The roof also affords dramatic views of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park (the museum is on Fifth Avenue, which runs along the east side of the park). This view is a bit east of south, and shows mainly buildings along Fifth Avenue.
