Stapelia - the cunning beauty!
Our Stapelia on the glazed-in balcony started to flower a while ago. A couple of days ago its second flower bud opened. These succulents are pollinated by flies (mainly the family Calliphoridae) that are deceived by the scent of the flowers, smelling like rotten flesh. Luckily the scent doesn't go very far - if you're not a fly of course...
Other genera with the same type of flowers are Hoodia and Huernia. All these genera have an African origin, just like we do!
