Tararua Range - Wairarapa, NZ

The Tararua Range forms part of the North Island's backbone. It is renowed for the wind and rain it attracts but today there is snow. The tops of the mountains normally get snow over winter but this is the worst snowfall on the lowlands since 1932.

Walkers were out this morning in the town of Masterton, greeting each other as they trudged through the snow, the town has been transformed overnight into  a winter wonderland. Throughout the day there has been significant drifts of snow with small bouts of sun.

Thanks for your comments on last nights 'Touch of Snow'. Not sure when we will be home as roads are closed and we are isolated at the moment. Tomorrow we hope to get to Wellington but may not be able to fly to Christchurch - could be interesting times ahead with a little adventure - sounds good to me :)
