Cormorant Preening

Headed back home today from San Juan Island and the boat! Made the ferry with time to spare and while waiting to disembark I noticed that I had a great view of the cormorant colonies on the ferry landing docks. This fella was really giving me quite a show as he spread out his feathers and turned his poor neck in a pretzel shape to preen. Got an amazing amount of good shots, although the light was weird and I kept having to hold my shutter half way down as I lowered the camera into a dark zone...worked perfectly to overexpose the shots and get some good detail on those black black feathers!!!
