Brain Drain Club: The Hammock Trials

For a background information on The Brain Drain Club go here.

We continued to focus on our hobbies today. Everybody brought something that represented their hobby: The Writer brought his fat and juicy notebook, The Musician brought his guitar, The Knitter brought her case of knitting needles and other knitting tools, The Sushi Fanatic brought her special ornamental chopsticks, The Tea Drinker brought the tools to brew a proper cup of Japanese matcha tea, The Collector intended to bring one of her antique desk fans but she forgot :-), and The DIY King brought the hammock he just made. After we talked about and wrote about the common threads our hobbies share, The DIY King admitted to not being sure whether his hammock would actually support a person. The need for field trials became apparent.

The Sushi Fanatic volunteered to test it out. We strung it between two columns in front of Building B. The black straps are heavy duty, and capable of supporting a thousand pounds each. The sheet was unrated for the hammocking use. The twine which created the loops out of the sheet's edges, necessary for connecting to the black straps did not come with any guarantees either.

At the end - victory! Mostly.

While getting into it proved easy, staying in was quite comfortable, getting out proved to be a horse of an entirely different color...
