Flat Stones, River Don, Aberdeenshire

Just a few metres downstream from the Nebbit Stane I have so often illustrated on these pages, these flat rocks extend outwards from the left bank of the River Don, making a wonderful spot for family outings, picnics, swimming and paddling in the river etc. However, the stones are covered by water on many occasions through the year when the river level rises.

I was able to find a couple of views of the stones here and here on the Web, but this view is taken from the minor public road - the Lord's Throat Road - that runs close to the left bank of the river at this point and for a few hundred metres upstream.

Nobody was tempted down onto the stones when I was there this afternoon, since today, persistent rain has brought a rapid end to the brief Indian Summer we enjoyed up here over the last two days of September.
