A Year In The Life Of ...

Ashnil Camp Masai Mara

Today we travelled another 4hrs on bumpy terrain and I mean bumpy - to the Masai Mara, before we arrived at our Camp, we stopped off at a Masai Village.

The photo shows the Chiefs son, sitting inside a dung hut - I was so glad to get out of there, the stench was incredible, I`m glad it was dark and I couldnt see all the creepy crawlies climbing up the wall, as Pete pointed out as we were coming out.

We took plenty of gifts for the Children, Pens, Pencils, Books, Rulers, Calculators and they all sat in the Cow Dung Infested Inner Circle of the Camp to receive the gifts, just to see the smiles on their faces, was sight in itself.

This afternoons Game Drive was amazing, we saw 4 Female Lions in a large field (for want of a better word), at first I thought they were just lazing about, but just across the River was a field of Wildebeast, what they were doing was sizing up their next meal.

We left them to it, and travelled further around the Reserve, when we returned an hour later, they had made their kill and was eating it on the edge of the Riverbank (dry bed at that point of the River), Just where we were parked up, down in the Riverbed was a female Deer, she looked like she had been startled in headlights, she was obviously aware of the danger that was less than 20 ft away from her, I kept saying to her it was safe to move, they were not interested in a Deer, they had their meal, but she wasnt moving, I felt so sorry for her.

Douglas (the Driver), told us that this time of year, when the Wildebeast are migrating, Lions just kill for fun, as food is in abundance for them.
