Vaffing around
Been in Colchester - yet again today - can't remember how many times this month now. We had just a couple of minutes left, so dropped in at the brand new, long-awaited, massively over-budget VAF building. After the really very wonderful local authority, demolished the bus station to build this, I was hoping it would be a good experience.
Well the building looks modern. Lots of glass, lots of what I assume is copper covered walls, lots of lovely curves. Lots of money spent on it - 26 million monies to be precise. Political arguing for the last five years or so, but now it is here.
Inside, there is a lot of headroom. Even I would fit in it at least five times over. There's a lot of width as well. Even I would fit in maybe twenty times over. Lots of photographs on the walls. Even I could fill those walls several times over.
The space in between was, well, a little disappointing. There was the Roman mosaic. Which used to be in the castle, so nothing new there. There is the coffee shop - nuff said. There was a pile of rubble which looked as if the ceiling had collapsed in a heap. There were two brass bicycles which looked like they had been welded together. There was a smallish room with some South American prints and drawings on the wall.
