On our drive to New York today we stopped for brunch in New Haven CT with my son Adrian and his partner Heather (see them here).

He's strumming a bass guitar that he's just commissioned from a friend who has gone into business as a luthier (maker of stringed instruments). It was a very impromptu shot, in his apartment with walls of brick--next time I must show the wonderful quality of the wood around the lower part (you see a bit of it above his strumming thumb).  Adrian has played with bands since his early teens, and still does so, despite his job as a radiation therapist.

The bad news: At our NYC apartment our cable connection (TV, telephone, internet) was not functioning. After nearly two hours on the phone to Time Warner, no improvement, no service appointment.  We have a basic cell-phone (I'd call it a dumb phone), no TV, and internet thanks only to an unsecured signal somewhere nearby.  We had a previous serious outage in July, but then they sent a service guy the next day. We're furious.
