Perfecto Romero and Che

Perfecto Romero is one of the photographers who captured iconic images during the 1959 Cuban revolution. (Albert Korda is better probably better known.) He came to meet our group at the Hotel Parque Central in Havana today. He talked about the time when he shot the images and showed us a lot of original prints.

The lighting in the hotel was dire and there were 10 of us crowding around to take our pictures. Not easy. I wanted to show you Perfecto holding one of his images of Che Guevara.

It must have been a heady exhilarating time when the rebels defeated the government. They were full of hopes and high ideals for the country.
