40th Anniversary of Abernethy Trust
- Backblip -
We travelled through to St Paul's and St George's in Edinburgh this evening, for the 40th anniversary of the Abernethy Trust.. We were involved working at the outdoor centre in Nethy Bridge back in the late 70's when we were students. It was special to meet up with many old friends, some of whom we hadn't seen for nearly 30 years.
Over 700 attended, it was jam packed. We were on the back row of a side balcony, so difficult to get a good shot. A moving occasion, with many happy memories. Messages of congratulations from all over the world, including HRH The Princess Anne; Danny Alexander MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury; Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh of Deacon Blue; and Sir Cliff Richard.
Lorimer Gray, the Executive Director, retired this evening. The appearance of his banjo resulted in great cheers and laughter. Way back when, my Blip Adviser would play guitar, with Lorimer accompanying on the banjo, at many evening sessions in the Walker Lounge. The open fire, ceilidh dancing, home made scones, snowed in at New Year House Parties - those were special times.
We visited the Centre back in July this year during our week long stay in Nethy Bridge.
