I think Edinburgh is notorious for it's old, rattly, poorly insulated sash windows from the "olden days". Fair enough, they might not be the best things to have separating you from a cold December morning, but I think they're really special compared to the silicone monstrosities that they are gradually being replaced with, wherever permissions allow.
