wander, stumble, wonder

Sunday, was a few days ago, but anyway... What did I do? Hmm. I went to hear my parent's chorale in Bach's Christmas Oratorio (maybe this is familiar?). I made it through all 2.5 hours, although I will admit I was getting a little restless by the end. It was still pretty good, I think. Got a decent write up in the paper, so I'll just agree with that.

I then went from baroque to contemporary christian at church. It was the last official Sunday for several employees so it was pretty intense. The music guy is among those leaving, so the music was pretty amazing too, and included a couple of carols which was a novelty. My far favourite was this version of 'O Holy Night' - usually I get that horrible version stuck in my head (if you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry), but this one blew that completely apart, especially the chorus. I love the emphasis on the minor key in the chorus, it really just brings out that oomph of the words.* It was beautiful.

We all wandered down to the waterfront for dinner and hanging out until it was well and truly dark, then a few of us headed back to someone's to watch a movie. My sensible was on holiday, so despite having work the next morning I still stayed out until midnight, then had to wrap some presents when I got home. Still. It was a pretty good day, so that was ok.

* Says with fingers crossed that she hasn't gotten it all wrong and shown herself to know even less about music than people think.
