Sledding Korketrekkern
Plenty of snow yesterday, so some friends and I headed up to Frognerseteren and hired sleds to do the Korketrekkern run. It's something special because you can take metro line 1 from Oslo city centre right up to the start of the run - people of all ages pile out the doors of the train with sleds, skis, snowboards and inflatable bodyboards and literally start from right off the train platform. There are hire places in case you don't happen to have your own sled, and you take the 4km run to Midstuen station and just jump back on the metro and do it all over again - all with your regular public transport ticket. It was the first time I've done it but it won't be the last - he's a video of the Korketrekkern run by someone much more confident and adept with a sled than me!
We did the run three times - we only got going late afternoon and the sun sets fast here, so the first run was in broad daylight, the second at dusk and the third in darkness (but they have lampposts with lights every few metres!) Awesome fun.
