guitar 4

It started off life as a cheap ebay special that, while not being hideous, wasn't fantastic: the finish was pretty damaged and a very thick polyester, the trem. had seen better days (what were supposed to be knife edges were very blunt), the pickups weren't great.

Damaged finish? Ignore. Crummy pickups? Get some replacements. Dodgy trem.? Just block it up and carry on.

That worked okay for a while until the seed of an idea was planted: why not try a more radical experiment on the guitar: strip it back, replace the trem., refinish it. Piece of cake!

The guitar was stripped (polyester is tricky to get off; it involves a blowtorch and shards of very hot polyester flying all over the place) which revealed a reasonable mahogany body. Hmmm. While I'm at it (and because the trem routing needs to be changed) why not machine off the top 2cm and replace with some maple that just happened to be lying around.

... and that is where we are. My ideas for projects completely outstrip the amount of time I have free. I'm hoping that I'll find a block of time in the near future to get back to this. Bah.
