Alpha & omega
Another sorry tale of our wonderful seaside piers.
Herne Bay pier head remains a forlorn picture of abandonment since its closure in 1968. It was once the second longest pier in the country and received visiting passenger steamers when the town was a thriving holiday resort.
Plans to rebuild it were scuppered by the collapse of the pier neck in a severe storm in 1978. Now there's controversy over what will happen with the shoreward end now that the sports and leisure centre is being relocated.
I decided black and white best suited this blip best but have got a colour version here. I think there's also great beauty in this picture of neglect and decay.
