St Lawrence and his little steps
An alleway off St Benedicts Street, near the Arts Centre and St Margaret's church where a selection of my photos are offering themselves for sale. This alley is called St Lawrence Little Steps.
St Lawrence, apparently, is a busy bloke as he is the patron saint of librarians, cooks, tanners and comedians. I have no idea why his steps are little - from where I was standing they looked pretty steep and I had a vision of drunken people tumbling down them.
Nipped into the ukulele shop as an enormous new selection of ukes have just arrived. I'm fine with the one I have - I was on the sniff to see if any new banjoleles have come in, so that I can go and help my friend Neil buy himself one. Alas, the wait continues.
One of the - ahem - guest artistes appearing at the Sing with Pride concert on Wednesday evening is a bloke who is going to entertain us with 3 gay-themed calypso songs on the uke. I'll be watching him like a hawk to see if I can recognise any chords.
The choir had a fabulous rehearsal last week which confirmed that we can actually sing if we put our minds to it and by some miracle we have got to grips with a couple of songs by Labi Siffre. Roll on Wednesday.
