The Larch
Situated unusually close to the trunk and only visible when highlighted by the evening sun, this magnificent larch tree, revealed a Red Kites' nest.
I have been looking out for a nest for the past couple of weeks, as only one of the pair has been roosting in the top of the dead beech tree, so I knew its mate must be close at hand.
In this shot the nest shows up as a dark patch to the right of the trunk.
There is another Red Kite nest about 20 metres away in the top of an oak tree. I will be watching them closely for signs of young, as these beautiful birds are amongst the earliest to lay eggs and hatch their chicks.
