Faith in What Remains
Today I visited West Liberty, Kentucky or perhaps I should say I visited what is left of this small town in the foothills of Appalachia. On March 2, it was struck by a devastating tornado that ripped across its county and directly through its downtown. Six died, over 1000 were made homeless, 8 churches destroyed and countless of small storefront businesses lost. Their elementary school was smashed and their municipal and county buildings were shredded. I went there to meet with some of the local leadership to see how to best help. I will go back next week to lend my services for a few days. They are mourning their losses but their focus is on recovery and a better future. They are a strong and resilient community. There is much to do.
