Hand printing press
Thanks so much everyone for all the comments on yesterday's - my first experience of Spotlight! I hope I have thanked everyone, but if I missed you I will be back.
This evening I have seen this hand printing press from the 1700s print a sheet of paper from the laid out blocks of text in the foreground. I was told 96 technical terms and have forgotten almost all, but I will learn them because with eight others I have started a hand-printing course. We will take another five weeks to produce a small book of poetry. Next week I will be compositing a poem - picking out movable type from an upper case and a lower case and using a composing stick to set it, letter by lead letter. Slow and wonderful.
