K is for Kick

I hadn't been to a Ponty match for months and then two come along at once! Both of which have made my AlphaPonty challenge!

Last Saturday saw Ponty beat Cardiff in a local derby, tonight they took on Cross Keys. I think fate played a hand in our heavy defeat of them. Cross Keys had won a gruelling BIC Cup semi final against their English opponents, Cornish Pirates on the weekend. As such, they had rested half their team. It showed, and after a quick ten point lead from a try and penalty in the opening ten minutes, Cross Keys fell further and further behind on the scoreboard.

It was an entertaining game, with the ball being thrown about Barbarians style for most of the game. There were nine tries in all, and Ponty run our clear winners 51-22.

The league is so tight this season, only four points separating the top five teams and only two games left, with Ponty having an extra game in hand. It is a shame there are play offs again (I hate play offs - said it a million times!) as it could all be meaningless, the team finishing 3rd and lost to both the teams above them in regular season won the league last year. Ponty only lost one home game, and that was the play off final! Hopefully we can avenge that wrong this season! We also have the small matter of a cup semi final this Saturday. A good time to be a Ponty supporter!
