Kingston Market Square

I chose this shot of Kingston Market Square today for 2 reasons.

First, I felt the shot had similar qualities of old etching prints of days gone by and secondly that it showed off the Market House in it's full glory. I grey toned everything else as I wanted to highlight the House and it has made me want to go back and shoot the square when there's no-one around, so as I can capture it in all it's true glory.

The Market Place has apparently been in use since around 1170 when Henry II was on the throne. Over the past 800 years Market Place has been used for much more than just selling produce and has been a place for both celebration and punishment - an ideal location for Kingston's criminals to get their comeuppance in the stocks!

A Grade II listed building, Market House is right in the heart of Kingston's Ancient Market Place and is a hub of entertainment and culture. The ground floor is home to the town's Tourist Information Centre. Not sure how many tourists go to Kingston, but those who do, will see the magnificent statue of Queen Victoria.

Amazing what you see around you a lot, and don't always appreciate.
