Brooklands Mill
Passing through Leigh this afternoon I was struck by the sad derelection of Brooklands Mill on the banks of the Bridgewater canal. The torrential rain and black clouds added to the desolation of the scene - this one had to be black and white!
The date over the door is 1882 and for almost a century, this was a vibrant place of work for the spinners of cotton. The noise of the machinery and the chatter of the workers now long gone along with the prosperity of full employment and a sense of purpose. This was one of 15 mills in the small town of Leigh in Lancashire, where King Cotton reigned.
Looks like rain again tomorrow :(
