Souviens-Toi : Remember

Today being the first proper sunny day, we headed out to Oradour-Sur-Glane (less than an hour south of where we are).

Oradour is a town, that was destroyed by the SS in WWII ( you can read more about it here ). No words from me can ever be sufficient.

642 men, women and children were rounded up by the SS and executed, no one is quite sure why. To be honest, we were expecting the town to have an air of sorrow, but the impression we got was one of defiance. Defiance from those few survivors that managed to escape and tell the truth of what happened. Defiance in ensuring that what happened should never be forgot, as a lesson to us all of man's capacity for inhumanity.

If ever you're in this part of the world, it's a place you really ought to visit.
