Growing old disgracefully

ARRAN COASTAL WAY: DAY 2

A great breakfast of home produced duck eggs and black pudding set us up for the second day.

A good walk needs a good companion. This one joined me for the first two days of the walk and didn't seem that adverse to joining me on a later one. So what makes the perfect walking companion? Well, for one thing, if a slight navigational error leads to the party climbing 700 feet higher and travelling 2 km more than intended but there is no witch hunt, that is one essential feature. And if you can walk with them in a mixture of companionable silence and great conversation then they score pretty highly indeed.

On our tramp from Sannox to Brodick, we got quite a bit closer to the snowline than intended, but the walk was improved by the fine views we would have missed had we found the forest path.

Home in time to take the Professor out for a celebratory meal. The Professor had kept the home fires burning and tended the greenhouse plants while we were gone. Best of life's travelling companions.

THREE THINGS TO BE GRATEFUL FOR:

* Travelling companions
* Sunshine on the beach
* Health and strength
