"Hello Ladies!"
LARGER LADIES
Meet May and Ginger, miniature Shetland mares (no need to explain which is which!). Their owner S is going on holiday and needed somewhere for them to stay where they can be kept an eye on whilst she and her daughters are away. She got my number though a friend who knew I had space for them, rang me a few days ago and came to have a look round on Thursday evening. So they arrived late yesterday afternoon for a couple of weeks holiday of their own! (If all goes well there's a chance they may end up staying longer term too). They settled down beautifully after the initial 'Hello Ladies!' from Tom and a few neck flexing and nose-to-nose snickering sessions
Ginger (who technically is a strawberry roan rather than a chestnut) is 10 years old, and mum to black May, who's 5. Ginger's been there, seen it and done it all, so is quite laid back and uninterested in Tom. May, however, is in season! Now, despite having been gelded at a young age, Tom's always been a bit of a ladies man and they've seemed to love him. So May's giving it some welly - legs splayed, spraying and doing her utmost to attract him. And she hardly leaves his side. Though Tom obviously has no idea what to do, even at 26 years old he's loving the attention and trots about with elevated paces, neck arched, saying 'Ain't I handsome, look at me' and looking every bit as gorgeous as he did when he was a youngster - the dirty old sod man gelding! lol. (Can't really blame him - he must think all his Christmases have come at once even if he's no idea how to unwrap the prezzies!)
They're a couple of absolute sweeties and, apart from being smaller and the difference in gender , are real look-alikes for my 2 now deceased Shetlands Smokey and Toddy. It's quite poignant seeing them with Tom, reminds me of days gone by .......
