The Power of No
The day after the referendum result, Collins Avenue in Clontarf was still a mass of posters. That 40% of Irish voters were prepared to say no to the austerity treaty, in the face of all the threats from mainstream politicians and media, must mean something; just as the fact that 22% of British people are still in favour of abolishing the monarchy, despite the constant drip of royalist propaganda in this 'jubilee' year, is for some of us a sign of hope. Anyway, I'm managing to escape the whole nonsense by heading for Connemara.
Was posting this on Monday, but got distracted and haven't been online since, until now (Thursday). Clontarf, by the way, is next door to Raheny. Happy birthday - it's mine today!
