Ariki Falls

Fifteen minutes south west of Murchison are the Ariki Falls. I had never been there before, so this afternoon we picked up my father in law (who has lived here all his life), and headed down that way.

The Buller River runs through the Ariki Falls, and according to my father in law, was formed after the 1929 Murchison Earthquake.

Adrenaline junkies get their thrills kayaking and white water rafting down this river - although you would need to be mighty experienced to do these sports, as the river has several big whirlpools in it.

I love the pink rock formations on this side of the river - it is very unusual.
