Vireo plumbeus
Camped at Mill Canyon near Walker, CA last night. Birded the road this morning and came upon a nesting pair of Plumbeous Vireos! This species is part of the Solitary Vireo complex, which includes two other very similar species, the Blue-Headed of the eastern U.S. and the Cassin's of the western U.S. Here Plumbeous and Cassin's occur together; you can distinguish Plumbeous by, as Sibley calls it, the "virtual lack of yellow" on the breast. This pair was my first sighting of this species in California, and what a sighting it was!
