Five empty chairs

This installation, briefly on display at the new Lews Castle Museum & Archives, shows 5 empty chairs from a church at Passchendaele, Belgium. Each chair signifies the losses from one of the years of the First World War. A sixth chair is not visible, but 1919 brought tragic losses to the Isle of Lewis when the HMY Iolaire sank on approach to Stornoway.
