London Eye goes global?

I found a great piece of art a few days ago on the South Bank. It's a globe, painted in turqouse and gold that appears to have fallen from the sky. It gleams in the sunshine (when we get that). Stand at the right place and you see it framed by the London Eye.

I'm not sure if this is connected to the Olympics (maybe it's a giant shotput?) but it appeared around the same time as the Mascot figures.
