horns of wilmington's cow

Sun. Hail. Snow. Wind.

Altered plans today, but all to the good.

We had intended on walking into Loch Coruisk, given the path runs right by our front door. It's a walk we've done before, and is pretty spectacular (even if the Bad Step is a little overstated), but while we could walk back out, it would be a big walking day, and the boat back to Elgol is much preferable.

So with 40mph winds forecast, and no boats running from Elgol today (or tomorrow it appears), instead there was a morning spent watching each passing hail and rain shower, a trip to a fantastic (if eccentric) silversmith who is going to make my birthday present from Mel, and a wee drive about, before stepping into the promised calmer weather for a walk from Kilchrist to the cleared village of Suisnish).

We still got the occasional hail, and the wind remained in the range of making you look like you were in a G force machine. But despite the tramp through the heather making the 3 miles or so in feel like 17, it has clearly been dry on Skye of late, and the bog was notable by its almost absence.

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be similar (if not slightly worse) so there may be the trip to the Oyster Man above Talisker distillery (which may warrant a trip into said purveyor of alcoholic beverages, of course).

(in shot is Bla Bheinn, and just been reading a story of a muppet who was rescued from it last night by helicopter after getting stuck 2000ft up, having taken no navigation equipment other than Googlemaps on his phone (which was running out of power but thankfully let him phone 999), and didn't even know the name of the mountain, but decided to climb it because he 'liked the look of it' - bloody lucky the mountain rescue guys were able to guesstimate his location from his description - people really are stupid).
