Milan
Now that I'm back from my Italy trip, my kind Mother has typed up the journal I kept whilst I was away, so I shall be posting this as the description for each day's blip.
5th July 2012 (?20)
We got up around 10 am and set out into Milan. My first attempt at Italian was buying a 24 hour (?4.50) metro/tram ticket (we didn't realise we had to validate them for ages, so got the metro for free the next morning). Managed to get the tram in the wrong direction first.
Ate bananas for breakfast. Made it into Milan and was astounded by the beauty of the Duomo. Originally we weren't allowed into it due to bare shoulders and knees. Sarah and I bought two shawls for ?5. We still couldn't get in! We walked to the fashion triangle in Milan. This was incredible. Via Monte Napoleone. SUCH expensive shops! Prada, Ralph Lauren, lots of others. Everyone was very rich and fashionable. We then took a tram to Central Station and had lunch (mango ice cream, ?2.50 for the biggest scoop!) We headed back to Duomo and got in this time. It was truly beautiful.
We headed back to Dan's, got lost AGAIN as we missed our tram stop, typically. Finally found our way. At home we organised trains, whatsapped the fam. The first day was odd, definitely takes a day to get used to everything.
We went for per aperitifs which was AMAZE. ?9, free drink and unlimited buffet. Lots of lovely food. Great chat with Dan's friends, all English speaking, were so friendly and very interesting. One was from US, one Holland, two Israel, London. After aperitifs we walked to this big square where at least 200 people are just sitting and chilling (although it was still ridiculously hot). Finally, at around midnight, the long day (and the late night) had taken its toll on us and we headed back. I slept like a baby but woke a few times in the night. Harry P does it job well though!
