Gairlochy to Fort William
Success! Back on the bike and back in the tent.
We moved back under canvas to the Glen Nevis estate campsite at the foot of Ben Nevis today and set up camp for the remainder of the week. It is a large campsite but really well organised and as a result you can find a nice wee secluded spot, which in our case was under a tree and beside a burn.
The little ones settled in straight away climbing the trees and crossing what they named 'the river of death' and the whole scene was so chilled out and calm we almost forgot about the cycling.
By late afternoon however we were back on the bike, cycling from Gairlochy to Fort William on the tow path of the Caledonian Canal. It was a lovely cycle, passing locks and swing bridges, waving to passing boats and throwing balls for a dog in the garden of a canal side cottage. Both boys fell off their bikes and grazed their knees and I fell off and bruised my leg (it is harder than you'd think to cycle at the speed of a tired and distracted 6 year old!), but otherwise it was a lovely relaxed early evening cycle and we were all chuffed with completing what was going to be the end of the tour.
Next job: the middle 60 miles. But first, dinner in the Glen Nevis pub.
