There's Gold in Them Thar Hills

Here we are having a jolly time on a walk from Wanlockhead to Sanquhar with the Dunscore Walking Group. Colin, our leader, is obviously not afraid of the bull (who was nowhere to be seen).

We started by catching a bus from Sanquhar to Wanlockhead, a former mining village and home to the highest pub in Scotland as well as a lead mining museum and an old lending library. Read all about it here.

You can also pan for gold in the local burns - last year a Canadian visitor found a nugget the size of a 20p piece and worth over £10,000.

No gold was found today, but the scenery and good company were worth more than their weight in it.
