Blowin' In The Wind . . .
It's Monday, the sun's shining - and it's public holiday (Simcoe Day, if you really need to know). So we head north to Melancthon, near Shelburne, site of Ontario's biggest accumulation of wind turbines - 125 of 'em spread out in every direction in this farming area.
Looks idyllic, but there's already trouble with turbine noise, and a farmer we spoke to told tales of abortions in livestock, local people being taken ill, and episodes of late night skulduggery by some of the contractors on the sites.
Anyway, the turbines look nice, but I dread to think what the countryside will look like if their density increases and, like all good townies, I'm pleased I don't have one in my backyard.
So there . . .
PS Click here to see more of the windmills, spread out over a large area. The angled boxes in the foreground are solar panels which are used - I assume - to power the windmills . . .
